Gry Bay

Gry Bay got her breakthrough co-starring in "Dr. Monika Lindt - Kinderärztin, Geliebte, Mutter" (1997-1998), a German TV-series which was aired prime time on RTL. The series led to another co-starring role in the film "Hosenflattern" aka. "Where Did You Last See Your Trousers?" (1998), made for cable TV.

1998 was also the year Gry toured England and USA with Kid Creole as a Coconut and solo singer. In the summer of 2001 she toured as the lead singer in the Danish band Crispy/XPY.

Since 1995 Gry has played bit parts in the main theatres of Denmark, and appeared as a singer and dancer in various musicals such as "West Side Story", "Grease", "Guys And Dolls" and "Crazy For You".

In 1999 Gry showed her versatile talent by leaping to the rescue and taking over the lead role as Sally in "Me And My Girl" on Nørrebros Teater without rehearsals for three nights running when the original actress fell ill. The following year, also at Nørrebros Teater, she played the part of Brooke Ashton in Michael Frayn's acclaimed comedy "Noises Off".

In the cinema, Gry Bay played the female lead in the feature film "Slim, Slam, Slum" aka. "Joystick Nation", a hiphop comedy which opened in Danish cinemas August 2002 and went on to become a top seller on video. She also choreographed the movie and wrote lyrics and music for some of the songs. It was her acchievements as a songwriter that led to her starring role in "All About Anna".

Parallel to her acting career, Gry Bay has studied drama and music at the University of Copenhagen, where she wrote a dissertation on the semiotics of body language in theatre. She received her MA degree in drama in 2003.

All About Anna biographies

Anna is played by GRY BAY, who got her breakthrough playing one of the main characters in the German TV-series “Dr. Monika Lindt”. In Denmark, she played her first female lead in the hip-hop comedy feature “Slim Slam Slum” (aka: “Joystick Nation”), for which she also composed several songs. At the Venice Biennale in 2005 she co-starred in Pipilotti Rist's video-installation "Homo sapiens sapiens", and she recently co-starred in the theatrical feature films “Betonhjerter” and “Grønne hjerter”.

Gry Bay has sung and danced in such shows as “West Side Story”, “Grease”, “Guys and Dolls” and “Crazy For You”. When the original star was taken ill, Gry Bay took over the leading part - without rehearsals - in “Me And My Girl” at Nørrebros Teater. The following year, also at Nørrebros Teater, she played the part of Brooke Ashton in Michael Frayn’s acclaimed comedy “Noises Off”, and most recently she co-starred in “Battle of Denmark”, a musical adaptation of William Shakespeare’s “King Lear”, which opened at Baggaard Teatret. Additionally, as lead singer for the band Crispy (aka XPY) and as one of the Coconuts in Kid Creole and the Coconuts, Gry Bay has toured in Denmark, England, Italy and the US.

In October 2003, by readers of Danish magazine "M!", Gry Bay was voted into spot 32 of the Top 100 Sexiest Girls in the World. In July 2004, by the readers of the Danish edition of FHM, she was voted into spot 97 at the Top 100 Sexiest Girls in the World. She has studied drama at the University of Copenhagen, where she wrote a dissertation on the use of body language in dramatic arts and later a paper on the works of William Shakespeare, graduating at MA level.

Johan, the male lead in “All About Anna”, is played by the English actor MARK STEVENS, recently seen as Sven the driller in Paul Anderson’s sci-fi/horror/action box-office hit “Alien Vs. Predator”, and opposite Mandy Moore in Andy Cadiff’s romantic comedy “Chasing Liberty”.

Born in Zimbabwe, Mark Stevens graduated from Birmingham University and trained at The Birmingham Theatre School. Theatre roles include Ton in “Gotcha”; Turner in “The Waiting” and Harris in “Testimony” at the Swan Theatre, Worcester; Gerardo in “Death and the Maiden”, Friar Laurence in “Romeo and Juliet” and the title role in “Macbeth” for C’est Tous Theatre in Preston; Duke Senior/Duke Frederick in “As You Like It” and Orsino in “Twelfh Night” for Open Hand Productions in Cambridge.

Mark Stevens also performed as Mark Anthony in a national tour of “Julius Caesar” with MDCC, and as Hector in a national tour of “Troilus and Cressida” with Clwyd Theatr Cymru. Other recent theatre credits include a national tour of “Naked Flame” and a national tour of John Godber’s “On the Piste” for Hull Truck Theatre. Previous films include “The Waiting”, “Platinum Souvenir”, “Journey to the Centre of the Earth” and the comedy thriller “Nine Dead Gay Guys” with Steven Berkoff.

Co-starring as Anna’s friend Camilla is British model, singer and actress EILEEN DALY, who also performs one of the songs from her CD-album “Forbidden Fruit”. In her native England, Eileen Daly is a Goth fetish cult icon best known for her close association with Redemption Video. Standing out among her many feature films is her starring role as Lilith Silver in Jake West’s “Razor Blade Smile”. As Lilith Silver, a leather-clad, gun-wielding vampire, Eileen Daly introduced a new species of cinematic action heroine, fashioning a look later used by Carrie-Anne Moss in “The Matrix”, Leonor Varela in “Blade II” and Kate Beckinsale in “Underworld”, among others.

In other supporting parts, as Anna’s frustrated suitors, “All About Anna”, features Danish actors THOMAS RAFT, who has appeared in the Emmy Award winning TV-series “Rejseholdet” (aka: “Unit One”), and MORTEN SCHELBECH, a Shakespearean actor with a rich theatrical background in such plays as Martin Tulinius' "Århundredet". Also appearing is Canadian filmmaker THOMAS LUNDY, writer-director of such short films as “Nude Not”.

In a special guest-starring role appears French hardcore actress and author OVIDIE, a former philosophy student widely regarded as France’s first pro-sex-feminist. With the publication of her critical book “Porno Manifesto”, she became one of the most discussed people in France. Ovidie, the only person in the cast with an adult film background, plays Sophie, a French stage actress who reads Anna’s heart and helps her find the path towards true love. During shooting of Ovidie's sex scene in “All About Anna”, Lars von Trier visited the set, and these two famous provocateurs were able to discuss their views on films and manifestos.

“All About Anna” is helmed by Swedish director JESSICA NILSSON, since 1988 based in Copenhagen, where she graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and later from the National Film School of Denmark.

Recently, Jessica Nilsson has received critical acclaim for a series of outstanding radio plays written and directed for Denmark's Radio. In 2005, the Danish Association of the Blind awarded her its Radioplay Award for her erotic radio play “Burning Desire”, produced by Denmark’s Radio. In its motivation, the Jury wrote: ”Jessica Nilsson is a woman not afraid of going off the rails to follow a story to its extreme consequence. She wholeheartedly relates to dangerous subjects and genres which nice girls normally leave to others.”

Jessica Nilsson is however best known for her unique music videos and award winning short films such as “The Sausage”, which won First Prize at the 1998 Oslo Short Film Festival, and “Spotless”, which was in competition at Sundance 2001 and won the Special Jury Prize at Flickerfest 2001 in Sydney. At the Odense Film Festival 2000, in connection with her short film “Spotless”, she received the Danish Directors’ Prize of Merit.

“All About Anna” was directed by Jessica Nilsson according to the rules of the Puzzy Power Manifesto, originally developed for Zentropa Productions’ feature film “Constance”. In a neat twist of fate, the song “For a While”, which was featured in the AVN Award-nominated score for “Constance”, had lyrics by Jessica Nilsson.

The music in “All About Anna” is composed by American producer and songwriter M. MAURICE HAWKESWORTH. Founder of the record label Invisible Wave, Hawkesworth originally made his mark as A&R Creative Manager for Mega Records, where he worked with major bands like Ace of Base and Savage Rose. Approximately 25 of the music videos he commissioned at Mega Records have been shown on MTV Europe, and his song “Marie”, performed by Solveig Sandnes, became a #1 hit in Japan.

Recently, Denmark’s biggest radio and television station DR chose Hawkesworth's CD album “Windermere: The World Is Here” as one of the ten most important Danish records of 2004, and his CD album “Said the Shark: Always Prattling on About Wolves” as one of the ten best Danish records of 2006.

For “All About Anna”, M. Maurice Hawkesworth has created an original score of great stylistic diversity, including two original songs and a new arrangement of the yearning folk ballad “Once I Had a Sweetheart”, performed for the film by Maria Køhnke.

Since teaming up with Lars von Trier and in 1992 founding Zentropa Productions, executive producer PETER AALBÆK JENSEN has become the most powerful figure in Danish cinema. His film and television productions come close to a hundred, and in 1998 he established Filmbyen, a huge film studio complex just outside of Copenhagen.

Amongst Zentropa’s best known feature films is Lars von Trier’s Oscar-nominated "Breaking the Waves", which also took the Grand Prix at Cannes, his musical "Dancer in the Dark", which won the Golden Palms for Best Film and Best Actress, and "Dogville", starring Nicole Kidman and James Caan.

Zentropa is also famous for the Dogme-manifesto, which demands that directors refrain from use of camera dollies, musical underscoring, artificial light, etc. Though initially ridiculed, use of the Dogme-concept has continually resulted in critically acclaimed films with international box-office success.

On “All About Anna”, Peter Aalbæk Jensen shares his executive producer credit with NICOLAS BARBANO and CLAUS SØRENSEN, with whom he founded Innocent Pictures.

Ovidie

The daughter of French left-wing intellectuals, Ovidie joined a communist feminist movement at ripe old age of 14 - and created an anarchist activist group at age 15!

Where do you go from there? As a feminist, she frequently in speeches and articles lashed out against the woman-degrading world of porn videos. Until she realised she had never actually seen one.

As she turned 16, the man who was to become her husband gave Ovidie a copy of Michael Ninn's trendsetting hardcore video "Latex" (1995). It completely changed her opinion of adult films, which she now started watching in secret. Soon after, she met legendary adult actress Annie Sprinkle and realised she could embrace the world of hardcore sex without giving up any of her ideals. Thus Ovidie, at this time studying philosophy at the University, became interested in taking active part in the world of porn.

Ovidie's debut as a performer in hardcore videos was an event which rocked France. Appearing in French talk-shows watched by millions, she spoke out against what she perceived as hypocrisy and lies about the adult industry. She became, in effect, France's first pro-sex feminist. In 2002, the publication of her book "Porno Manifesto" created a similar sensation. She is today one of the most famous people in France.

Since her debut as an adult actress, Ovidie has appeared in over fifty hardcore films, including Martin Cognito's "Claudine" (2002), where she plays a dominatrix caught in a cat-and-mouse-game with a police inspector, played by her frequent co-star Hervé Pierre-Gustave. She has also directed several adult films, most notably "Lilith" (2001), starring Liza Harper, Nomi and Hervé Pierre-Gustave.

Outside the world of porn, acting opposite her husband Désir Clinique, Ovidie has appeared in the French thriller-comedy "Mortel transfert" (2000) by acclaimed director Jean-Jacques Beineix ("Diva"; "Betty Blue").
Afterwards, she appeared in Bertrand Bonellos mainstream feature "Le pornographe" (2001), a drama starring Jean-Pierre Léaud as a director who yearns for the lost idealism of his youth in the 1960s.

Following that, she made a special appearance playing the French stage actress Sophie in Jessica Nilsson's romantic comedy "All About Anna" (2003), an adult-mainstream crossover feature film produced by Innocent Pictures in co-production with Zentropa.

Thomas Lundy

Thomas Lundy, born 22 May 1972 in Canada, is a writer, filmmaker, actor and musician based in Amsterdam.

He has spent the last 30 years observing the absurdity of life and is now near to finishing off a book about it. A cardless member of the International Bohemian Club, Lundy is a drifter and flows in and out of various ports of the world, moving when his surroundings begin to pale.

While residing in Canada, he made two unique films, "Nude Not" and "The Man Who Never Had a Girlfriend"; the first told of a sleepless woman believing herself to be surrounded by nude people in her house; the second told of a Woody Allen-esque man arranging Q&A dates with some 40 women, attempting to solve the riddle of his inability to get a girlfriend.

Lately Thomas has become a Beatles maniac and is trying to start a rock band. Other than the films and book mentioned here, Lundy's lived in seven countries, learned seven languages, done useless degrees and worked countless useless jobs. Now he is wondering if "All About Anna" will be his greatest moment, as he gets to show his manhood. Or just another useless job.
